About the Program

The Master of Science in Telecommunications at George Mason University provides a technically rigorous, interdisciplinary blend of graduate level courses in network engineering and communications systems.

The degree program aims to empower both recent graduates and more experienced technical professionals with the knowledge and tools to succeed in this exciting and fast moving field.

The program is designed from the ground up to be accessible for motivated students from diverse backgrounds. In contrast to traditional engineering program, the MS in Telecommunications deemphasizes theoretical treatment of communication systems. Instead, emphasis is placed on practical knowledge and mastering the complexity of systems that are deployed on massive scales and constantly evolving.

The program combines rigorous technical courses focusing on Internet protocols, wireless system (e. g. 5G), Cloud design and operation, and network security.  As a result, our graduates understand the details of the technology that drives our communications systems and are able to place that technology in a broader context.

George Mason University is ideally located in the heart of Northern Virginia’s high-tech corridor. The Telecommunications graduate program aims to meet the needs of the region’s technology industry by training and developing the existing workforce and by attracting new, talented students to the area.
